Combining classic aesthetics with modern benefits: hotel refurbishment project in Cambridge

The team at Livingwood was contacted by an architect engaged in a major commercial refurbishment of Anstey Hall in the Cambridgeshire region.

Set in the countryside between Grantchester and Trumpington, the Anstey Hall properties are made up of a grand manor (now a hotel), as well as several surrounding historic barns which have been transformed into a range of unique luxury homes. Some of the buildings on site are Grade II listed dating to the 18th Century, all restored using traditional local materials.

Tasked with the restoration of the buildings surrounding Anstey Hall, our client paid close attention to the materials used in the project. Ultimately, the refurbishment required an extensive set of bespoke windows and doors which would maintain – or improve – the natural character of the properties.

As a result, Livingwood Windows' Flush Casement LW18 timber windows and innovative Lift & Slide wooden doors provided an ideal solution, combining the benefits of modern double glazing with the classic aesthetics of timber framing.

Flush Casement LW18s

The Flush Casement LW18s installed were optimal for our client due to their unrivalled energy efficiency.

Building on product developments originating in harsher Nordic climates, the LW18's profile (featuring two gaskets in the design) offers exceptional insulation, airtightness and waterproofing. Combined with warm edge spaces and low-E coatings, the LW18 can reach U-values of 0.75 W/m2K. This was an essential consideration in these renovated properties, where classical timber aesthetics could not be allowed to compromise thermal performance.

As with all Livingwood products, the LW18 was also designed and manufactured with the highest security standards in mind.

As a result of this installation, our client's building will benefit from reduced energy expenditure – helping to preserve the environment while being exceptionally easy on the eye.

Lift & Slide Wooden Doors

The Lift & Slide wooden doors we installed provided numerous advantages for our client's project.

As well as helping to maximise space in any property, the Lift & Slide's practically flush threshold combines with the innovative seals created by the lift-and-slide functionality to ensure a thermally broken system which is extremely airtight. Able to be specified with aluminium cladding and glazing options - providing U-values of 1.0 to 0.4 W/m2K - the Lift & Slide is as energy efficient as any Livingwood product.

Naturally, we've worked to ensure security standards easily meet the compliance requirements of Part M building regulations. Additionally, unlike traditional sliding doors, the seals on our wooden Lift & Slide doors do not suffer from wear and tear.

The ideal Livingwood solution

As with all products we supply, the custom Livingwood windows and doors used in this project were manufactured from our factory in Bury St Edmunds. Our teams utilise CNC technology to ensure our customers receive only the most innovative and sustainable windows and doors available in the UK.

Ultimately our client was not left disappointed, with the timber styling and energy efficient specification of our LW18 windows and Lift & Slide doors helping to put an immaculate final touch on the Anstey Hall refurbishment.
