WOODEN TILT AND TURN WINDOWS

The Livingwood timber inward open tilt and turn windows range is sometimes referred to as a German style window. This type of window opens into the room, tilting first (hinged at the bottom) then turning into the room as a side hung window.

highly configurable tilt & turn windows

The advantage of this window style is twofold. They can accommodate larger opening sizes and improved U values over outward opening window systems. Our standard design with insulated frame, the Thermax Ultra range can achieve overall U value of 0.7 W/m²K. It is possible to configure the window to turn first then tilt depending on preference. It is also possible to have either a turn only or a tilt only option. Other options allow for single or double balcony doors.

STANDARD TIMBER OR ALUMINIUM CLADDING

All Livingwood tilt and turn windows can be clad in aluminium. Sometimes described as composite windows, aluminium cladding create a virtually maintenance free framework while still benefiting from the enhanced thermal performance of a timber window.

Frames

There are many different frame types to accommodate different glass packages, as standard we can supply a 68, 78 or 88mm frame.

The construction of the frame and closing mechanism create an incredibly strong window that is extremely secure. Depending on the opening size the window can have many multiple locking points, large units can have 10 or more receivers for the espagnotlette locking system .

Locking

The locking system engages on all sides of the windows so there is no opportunity for the window to be forced open. We currently use either GU or Roto locking systems depending on window type.
Manufactured from the highest quality materials all timber is laminated and graded to remove knots (some versions are finger jointed where knot free timber is not possible), this provides enhanced dimensional stability. The removal of the knots also creates an enhanced paint finish or a better base for clear internal lacquer or stained finishes.

Seals

There are two seals as standard making the German style tilt and turn window one of the most airtight available, the second seal also acts as an acoustic barrier making this system ideal when trying to reduce noise. Some versions such as Aluminium clad can have up to 4 seals.

Finish

All windows are supplied fully factory finished with a spray applied micro porous paint system that enables the timber to breathe and subsequently results in a paint finish that is guaranteed for 5 years. Stain finished are guaranteed for 2 years. Due to the advanced spraying facilities and the quality of timber used our paint finish is one of the best currently available.

Technical specification

  • Paint finish, Teknos micro-porous paint system, base coat followed by two top coats in any one of 250 Classic RAL Colours available. There are also stain options available.
  • Aluminium clad windows are painted with a powder coating system and painted to a standard gloss rating of 65% as standard, however other gloss ratings are available at extra cost.
  • All timber as standard is sourced from within the Arctic Circle from slow growing Redwood that is classed as a semi-hardwood. This is then laminated and graded so the two external faces have virtually no knots, resulting in a paint finish second to none.
  • Depending on the window type the ironmongery is either Roto, or GU.
  • Trickle vents are available as an option they have a surface mounted external hood painted to the colour of the window. Various options are available for the internal ventilator such as acoustic or thermal options.

Technical details and drawings

The triple-glazed tilt and turn windows you supplied look beautiful and work really well. We have had excellent service from your company, especially at the selection stage and in sorting out a few snags after installation to a very high standard. It's not often you can say that about the construction industry. So thank you for that.
