Combining aluminium and timber to great effect: The George & Dragon Pub, Dartmouth

george & dragon

The George & Dragon is a very popular, historic public house in the heart of Dartmouth, Devon. The pub is situated in a very public position, close to Dartmouth’s quintessential quayside. The pub’s owner required a supplier to assist with its complete refurbishment that could manufacture contemporary aluminium windows and doors as well as traditional timber windows and doors, mixing 21st century style with the building’s tradition.

We were specified to provide almost our entire range of products that we sell; covering the following:

Timber sliding sash windows

Made from engineered Redwood and fully-finished in the specified RAL colour, they incorporate all the traditional features of a sliding sash box combined with modern materials.

Aluminium clad tilt-and-turn windows

Capable of accommodating large opening sizes and improved U-values for commercial and domestic properties, the aluminium cladding enhances the thermal performance of timber framed windows.

Flush casement aluminium clad windows

With slender frame profiles that allow for more light and better thermal conductivity, we manufactured these aluminium clad windows to be double glazed.

Timber entrance doors

Greatly enhancing the pub’s new façade, our high-quality timber doors will provide the pub with improved security and outstanding thermal performance, whilst creating the perfect first impression.

Aluminium entrance doors

Built in-house at Livingwood to stand the test of time, built around an insulated panel system that offers security and industry leading energy performance, as well as contemporary style.

Our investment in state-of-the-art machinery at our headquarters in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, enabled us to design and manufacture every single aluminium window and door for the George & Dragon Pub to the millimetre. Our CNC machinery manufactures all Reynaers’ high-performance products to the letter, taking full advantage of this highly sustainable building material to create stunning results for our clients.

The building’s refurbishment also included an impressive extension to feature a much-enlarged bar area, new drinking and dining areas on both the ground floor and the first-floor space, featuring expansive views of the river.

The pub also features three apartments above it, while the hugely popular front terrace has been revamped with plenty of covered seating to complement the outside bar area. The pub has remained in keeping with its theme with dragon-related textures included within the finishes, as well as the installation of unique sculptures.
